Steve Shellhorn was sued for $10,000 by an eBay seller who sold him some coins. Shellhorn bought some Morgan silver dollars from a man in North Carolina. The price was fair, but Shellhorn says the coins were packed poorly. "The coins were hanging out of the envelope, loose, with no packing whatsoever around them," he said. The seller wanted feedback. Shellhorn couldn't honestly say the deal was good or bad so he took the middle ground. "This is neutral feedback, not even negative feedback, but neutral. He sued me for $10,000," he said. A Quezon City-based nongovernmental organization is one of the recipients of an award for pioneering social entrepreneurship given by the Skoll Foundation of billionaire Jeffrey Skoll, former president of the Internet auction firm eBay and an independent movie producer. The Visayan Forum Foundation Inc., founded by human rights activist Maria Cecilia Flores Oebanda, is among the four Skoll awardees from Asia that will be joining the growing global network of Skoll social entrepreneurs, now numbering 59. It is cited for creating innovative and proven solutions for tackling the world’s most urgent social and economic challenges. As a child in the Philippines, Oebanda helped her family survive by selling fish and scavenging garbage. As freedom fighters against the Marcos dictatorship, she and her husband were imprisoned for four years and separated from their oldest son. Their two other children were born in detention. Thank you PESA for the warm welcome… I am delighted to be here this morning for several reasons.First, I'm always happy to come to New Orleans. In selecting this site as your 2008 destination and in dedicating a day to Habitat for Humanity, you demonstrate once again the sincerity, compassion and desire to help others that has always been a big part of the eBay community and PESA members in particular.Like many organizations, eBay and our employees donated time and money following Katrina. As well as giving a million dollars to the Red Cross, we also gave more than one million dollars cash directly to sellers living in the most affected areas. There's been some talk about PayPal blocking Safari from using its services, and I'm among those concerned about it... even if only from a convenience standpoint. Originally the news was gleaned from statements by PayPal Chief Information Security Officer Michael Barrett regarding browsers without phishing protection -- which most assumed included our beloved Webkit-based compass. But in a brief addendum to a post at the Wall Street Journal last week it was reported that -- while Paypal will be blocking older browsers (IE4-era) and older operating systems -- Safari is safe from the cut. by Brett Terpstra
While eBay's President of Global Marketplace Operations Lorrie Norrington didn't actually say, "shape up or ship out," it was clear that was the message she gave to a small gathering of eBay sellers on Wednesday. "If you cannot, or will not change business practices to provide a great customer experience, then eBay is not for you - As I said before, sellers who do not make customer service a priority make it difficult for everyone and are not welcome on eBay." She prefaced those words by telling sellers that the key to their success on eBay was DSRs - Detailed Seller Ratings left by buyers. "Sellers with strong DSR scores are going to fare very, very well on eBay. You will get better pricing, better visibility and an unmatched opportunity to reach customers and turn inventory to cash." Codemasters and Engage In-Game Advertising have unveiled a new form of in-game marketing for the upcoming racing title GRID which will incorporate the eBay Motors marketplace as part of the game. eBay Motors will be used by players to buy, sell and upgrade their vehicles in-game, the publisher said, adding that the auction site will also be sponsoring "The eBay Motors Muscle Series" and featuring an eBay Motors Mustang GTR concept race car. "This is an exciting and creative way to reinforce our brand among core auto enthusiasts," said Curtis Kroeker of eBay Motors. "Engage In-Game Advertising brought the videogame channel and opportunity into view. GRID was the logical platform to reinforce eBay Motors as the leading online destination for buying and selling all things automotive." By Andy Chalk
